Join us for a class on digital photography, put on by the experts at

Sgt. Peppers Photography Studio.

The class is at 1:00 on Saturday, Feb. 21. Then put your new knowledge to work and submit a photography that best shows the theme "Express Yourself" by March 7. Winning photographs will be published on a bookmark that will be given out to hundreds of people for the teen summer reading club!

Are you interested in learning how to write, shoot, direct, and edit movies? Check out the winter film school from the Binning Foundation! It goes from January 26th - April 22, Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-5:30, and is open to all 6th-8th graders. There is a $25 fee for the program.

Hi all! My name is Mark, and I’m the new teen librarian at the Bemis Public Library. There are some great upcoming teen events to put on your calendar. I purchased Rock Band for our Wii system and we’ll be playing that and Carnival Games at the next Wii date, Sept. 18 @ 3:30. Teen Read Week is also coming in October, 10/12 – 10/18. We’ll be having a book swap where you can trade in books (and other stuff) and earn chances to win a $30 gift certificate to AMC theaters. Bemis has finally purchased a Wii gaming system! Believe me, I have been looking for one for quite a while. The system will be unveiled during our Spring Game Night on April 25, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Please come and join us for pizza, board games, computer games, and of course, the Wii!

Bemis will host three babysitting classes during the Summer of 2008. This one-day program is focused on those between the ages of 11-17. Topics covered include: responsible play, picking up and holding children, feeding, emergency procedures, identifying appropriate toys, and hygiene (handwashing). The class is held at Bemis Public Library from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm. Class size is limited to 12 participants and they fill up fast! The cost for the class is $59 and registration is done by calling the Red Cross directly at 303-722-7474

Registration for the great collaborative effort between the Binning Family Foundation and Bemis Public Library will begin on Tuesday, May 27. You will need to come to the library to fill out the registration form for the 8 week program. Film school will begin on June 3, and will be held from Tuesday through Thursday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Cost for this program is $50 and scholarships are available. The Summer Film School is held at the Binning Family Foundation, 1269 W. Littleton Blvd. Program is limited to 40 participants from 6th grade up to 12th grade. The theme for the 2008 Summer Film School is "Read and Renew the Earth".

We have reorganized the Naruto Club to an Anime Club. The first meeting of the new Anime Club will be April 5th at 12:00 (noon) We will pick the movie to watch from the library's growing anime collection. Come and join us for anime, food, and games.

Bemis is attempting to create a Naruto Club. Come and join us for the first meeting which will be held on February 16th at 12:00 pm (noon). We will watch a Naruto episode, play a Naruto game, and decide the direction of the club. Enjoy the following YouTube Naruto video...

Both Suzanna and Hoang had dinner at Maggiano's with Chris and several teens from the Aurora area and Arapahoe High School. Here is an excerpt from an up and coming young author, Suzanna Lynn:

Chapter One

I walked towards the high school focusing intently on the ground in front of me. The weak autumn sun shone down on me bringing out the red in my light brown hair and making my skin look almost transparent. I played with the strap to of my messenger bag that hung across my chest. Whenever I did this my hand always found my mother’s wedding ring that I kept on a thin chain that came to my breast. I clasped the ring in my hand, closing my eyes and taking a deep breath. I had been going to the same school for over three years yet every time I went in the school I felt like a new kid on her first day.

“Adrienne.”

The sound of my name being called from behind me pulled me out of the uneasy, trance-like walk to the doors. I looked up and turned around to see my best friend, Derek making his way through the crowd of students with a warm smile on his face.

The next Teen Book Club meeting will be August 13, at 10:00 am. We will be disussing the book Undine by Penni Russon. (Sixteen-year-old Undine, hearing her presumably deceased father calling to her and feeling a strange force growing inside her, travels to the sea to discover the depths of her magical powers.)

The Teen Book Club book for Saturday, September 1 at 2:00 pm will be Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins. (When eleven-year-old Gregor and his two-year-old sister are pulled into a strange underground world, they trigger an epic battle involving men, bats, rats, cockroaches, and spiders while on a quest foretold by ancient prophecy.) We will hold this meeting and determine if interest to continue the club into the fall.

Visit Hogsmeade Village! On Friday, July 13, we will be having a great, fun, fabulous, fantastic, well, enough adjectives, event here at Bemis to celebrate the release of the newest Harry Potter movie and book. You will have the opportunity to do a varied amount of activities related to Harry Potter and have the chance to win several prizes. Please come into the library asap to pick up your limited ticket which will allow you to enter Hogsmeade Village.

The first day of the Tissue Mummy Wrapping competition has passed. Teams had to use strategy, speed and a good wrapping technique to make a fast time. Here are some pictures from the competition, and you will have a second chance to compete on Wednesday, June 20 at 1:00. The fastest time was 1 minute and 18 seconds!

We had our first meeting of the Teen Book Club, and you are invited to participate in the second meeting. Thirteen teens helped to make the Horus Mural during the first week of the Summer Reading Program. Here is a picture for those of you that did not have a chance to see it (it will be in the Teen Central section of the library for the remainder of the summer), or work on it. Special thanks to Amanda, Miranda, and Cheyenne for helping put the mural in place.

Are you into anime? Well then come and join the Bemis Anime Team while we watch an episode of the movie "Black Cat". Light refreshments will be served and we will have some giveaways. The presentation of "Black Cat" will be held on June 12 at 3:30.
