Alright! You have all gotten through the first two weeks of the teen summer reading program. Please remember to bring in your Tracking form and receive your prizes. A coupon from Applebee's has been added to the prizes for the first two weeks.

Due to popular demand, Bemis has added another Red Cross Babysitting class. The new class will be held on Monday, June 30th. Please see the post from April 11 th for further information and registration phone number.

Wow! Tuesday, May the 27th was a great time at Bemis Public Library. We set records for the most people through the building for summer reading registration! The Earth Balloon was a great event and if you did not get to come in that day, here are some pictures to show you what you missed!

Bemis has finally purchased a Wii gaming system! Believe me, I have been looking for one for quite a while. The system will be unveiled during our Spring Game Night on April 25, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Please come and join us for pizza, board games, computer games, and of course, the Wii!

Bemis will host three babysitting classes during the Summer of 2008. This one-day program is focused on those between the ages of 11-17. Topics covered include: responsible play, picking up and holding children, feeding, emergency procedures, identifying appropriate toys, and hygiene (handwashing). The class is held at Bemis Public Library from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm. Class size is limited to 12 participants and they fill up fast! The cost for the class is $59 and registration is done by calling the Red Cross directly at 303-722-7474

Registration for the great collaborative effort between the Binning Family Foundation and Bemis Public Library will begin on Tuesday, May 27. You will need to come to the library to fill out the registration form for the 8 week program. Film school will begin on June 3, and will be held from Tuesday through Thursday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Cost for this program is $50 and scholarships are available. The Summer Film School is held at the Binning Family Foundation, 1269 W. Littleton Blvd. Program is limited to 40 participants from 6th grade up to 12th grade. The theme for the 2008 Summer Film School is "Read and Renew the Earth".

We have reorganized the Naruto Club to an Anime Club. The first meeting of the new Anime Club will be April 5th at 12:00 (noon) We will pick the movie to watch from the library's growing anime collection. Come and join us for anime, food, and games.

Bemis is attempting to create a Naruto Club. Come and join us for the first meeting which will be held on February 16th at 12:00 pm (noon). We will watch a Naruto episode, play a Naruto game, and decide the direction of the club. Enjoy the following YouTube Naruto video...

TAG president Hoang and Vice President Suzanna had the opportunity of a lifetime in meeting young adult author Chris Crutcher. Both Suzanna and Hoang had dinner at Maggiano's with Chris and several teens from the Aurora area and Arapahoe High School. In addition to meeting Chris, Hoang has finished reading all of the books Bemis has in its collection written by Chris Crutcher! Chris is shown here speaking at Arapahoe High School.

Here is an excerpt from an up and coming young author, Suzanna Lynn:

Chapter One

I walked towards the high school focusing intently on the ground in front of me. The weak autumn sun shone down on me bringing out the red in my light brown hair and making my skin look almost transparent. I played with the strap to of my messenger bag that hung across my chest. Whenever I did this my hand always found my mother’s wedding ring that I kept on a thin chain that came to my breast. I clasped the ring in my hand, closing my eyes and taking a deep breath. I had been going to the same school for over three years yet every time I went in the school I felt like a new kid on her first day.

“Adrienne.”

The sound of my name being called from behind me pulled me out of the uneasy, trance-like walk to the doors. I looked up and turned around to see my best friend, Derek making his way through the crowd of students with a warm smile on his face.

Are you ready to Sumo? Bemis will be hosting a fun program in which you will be able to put on a canvas sumo suit, it is blown up with air, and you will wrestle against another teen! It will happen on Wednesday, August 22, from 3 to 5. Hope to see you there!
