The Bemis Teen Battle for the Best Book is BACK!

What's your favorite book?

Nominate a title and you could win a prize!

Fill out a nomination slip and drop it in the box in TEEN CENTRAL, or email your nomination to Mark at: mdecker@littletongov.org

Nominated books will "battle" throughout August, September, and early October, and the winning book will be announced in October.

Each week nominated titles will be pitted against each other and teens will vote on which book is better.  Losing titles are removed; winning titles advance until we have 1 winner.

Each book you nominate, and every time you vote, gets you registered for prize drawings!

I'll send out email reminders about which titles are battling, so keep checking back!

Teen Summer Reading 2012

Registration begins Monday, 5/21.  Come into the library to sign up. 
Don't forget to pick up your reading log/tally sheet after you register for the reading program.

Read for 24 hours over the summer and you will get:
a free book of your choice and passes/coupons to places like: McDonalds, Chick fil-A, Applebees, AMF Bowling, Lakeside, Heritage Square, and South Suburban Parks and Recreation!

You could also win cool stuff all summer like:
gift cards to local businesses, bags of candy, books, DVDs, Hunger Games movie posters, gift certificates to Reinke Brothers, passes to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science (including Imax and the planetarium), any many others!  The grand prizes you could win are an ipod touch or a Kindle Fire!

Learn to make, decorate, and throw a boomerang.

Talent Show

High school auditions are June 20, 5-8 pm
Makeup auditions are June 27, 5-8 pm

Murder Mystery Event
Put your detective skills to the test in this interactive mystery event.

Gaming Tournament #1
Wii=Mario Kart; Xbox Kinect=Dance Central. 
June 21, 11-1 pm

Art: Own the Night
Learn some tips from a professional artist about incorporating "night" into your art.  
June 29, 2-3:30 pm

Mars Explorers
Learn all about the planet Mars and the difficulties involved with getting people onto the surface; pilot an RC Mars Rover, make Mars mud, and build a glider that's yours to keep.  
July 11, 3-4 pm

Gaming Tournament #2
Wii=sports games; Xbox Kinect=Olympic events (we might do the new Star Wars game on the Xbox if it's arrived by then!). 
July 19, 11-1 pm

The Beatiful Art of Henna
Learn about Henna and trace your own design for a tattoo (it lasts 2-3 weeks). 
This event requires a parent/guardian permission slip. 
July 24, 2-4 pm

Red Cross Babysitting classes
Get certified as a babysitter!

Have you read a book recently that you thought was so good that everyone else should read it? Here's your chance to convince them!



Write a killer review of a book/game/movie that you think other teens would like. Make sure to include all the pertinent information (your name, title, author, etc...) and make sure your review is FAMILY FRIENDLY--this means rated PG!!! I'll post the reviews on the blog and in the library. If your review is good enough, it might even get published in the newspaper! Send your review to me at mdecker@littletongov.org


The best review will win a gift certificate--I will contact the winner to find out their choice of gift card.

Did you know the library has books available to download for free to your electronic device? The first 5 teens to send me a teen title that is available to be electronically downloaded to an iPod, Kindle, Nook, or other device will be entered in a drawing to win a gift card (choices include the app store, Coldstone Creamery, McDonalds, and others). I will contact the winners!

How to enter:

step 1: Go to the library web page at http://bemis.sirsi.net/

step 2: Click on “digital downloads”

step 3: Choose the “Across Colorado Digital Consortium” link

step 4: On the left hand side of the page, you’ll see some choices to “browse” different kinds of titles. Choose the “browse teen” selection, and choose “teen ebooks,” which brings up a list of teen titles available for download to different devices. Browse the titles and find something that sounds good.

The first 5 teens to send me the title of a book that is listed in this section will be entered in a drawing to win a gift card. Send your title to mdecker@littletongov.org
